Traffic Accident involving Scooter Near 15th Street and Mount Vernon Road SE

On Wednesday, June 9 at 4:03 p.m. Cedar Rapids Police officers and Cedar Rapids firefighters responded to a collision involving a scooter and a motor vehicle near 15th Street SE and Mount Vernon Road SE.
Based on preliminary information, two children were on a scooter in the alley between 15th Street and Camburn Court SE and exited onto Mount Vernon Road SE where they were struck by a vehicle.
Both children on the scooter sustained life-threatening injuries. Both children are under the age of 12 years.
The victims were transported by Area Ambulance Service to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Westbound traffic on Mount Vernon Road is being rerouted at 19th Street SE while Police Department accident reconstruction specialists work the scene.
