Marcy Barta Donation to Animal Care & Control

February 5, 2021

Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control has received an $112,583.44 donation from the estate of Marcella (Marcy) Barta.

Marcella (Marcy) Barta was born on August 1, 1945 in Cedar Rapids.  She was raised and continued to reside in Cedar Rapids her entire life.  Marcy loved animals and always had a dog or two, and even some cats, who received unconditional love and special care.

Marcy graduated from Jefferson High School and then worked at Penick & Ford until her retirement.  She was very proud of her Czech heritage and volunteered at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.

Her favorite pastime was reading, cross stitching, traveling, and entertaining her pets.  Marcy’s pets were her first love and brought great joy to her life.

Tragically, Marcy died on April 7, 2019 at the age of 73.  Remaining true to her love of pets, Marcy stated in her will that some of her estate should be directed to helping animals in need.

Ronnie Schlabs, Program Manager at Animal Care and Control said, “According to Marcy’s friends and family, she was known as a kind-hearted, warm, and caring person.  Her generous donation will ensure that her wish to continue to help animals in need will be fulfilled.  We have many dogs, cats, and other animals that arrive at the shelter in need.  Marcy’s love of pets will endure and we want Marcy and her family to know that her donation will be put to good use helping animals in need, including getting animals healthy for adoption so they have a chance to go to a loving home like Marcy provided her pets for years.”
