Police Department Relocating Police Substation

The Cedar Rapids Police Department is relocating the Police Substation, also known as the Community Connections Center, from 1501 1st Avenue SE to 1233 1st Avenue SE, Suite F.   This move will be taking place over the next 45 days and will be completed by March 1st.

The goal of a satellite police facility is to establish community relations and solicit information to address issues.  This is the primary reason why the Police Department needs to have a police substation in proximity to the current location at 1501 1st Avenue SE.  However, the Police Department has determined that the current Community Connection Center’s 6,800 square feet is significantly more space than is needed.  By relocating the Police Substation to 1233 1st Avenue SE, Suite F, there will be an annual cost-savings between $35,000-60,000.   The new location will have office space for the District Police Lieutenant, Police Community Action Team Sergeant, and the Eastern Iowa Heroin Initiative Officer.  There is also adequate space for other police officers to use the resources available inside the office and meet with citizens as needed.

The Police Department will notify the public when the current Community Connections Center closes and the new location is open.  The Police Department is working with the City’s Information Technology department and other City departments to facilitate this move in an efficient manner.
