Fitness Zone and ITC Pavilion Opened at Noelridge

The City of Cedar Rapids officially opened two new amenities at Noelridge Park today. A new ITC Pavilion at Noelridge Lagoon and the third fitness zone in the Cedar Rapids park system were added through donations from ITC Midwest and the Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors (CRAAR). “We are thrilled that these partners stepped forward to allow us to make improvements to Noelridge Park. Noelridge is a well-loved park and these amenities will make visits to the park even more enjoyable,” said Sven Leff, Parks and Recreation Director.

The ITC Pavilion at Noelridge Lagoon was built in the same location as the previous lagoon pavilion. It replaces a 40 year old structure that was one of the most frequently rented among 24 pavilions in the park system. ITC Midwest donated $75,000 to build the pavilion. The white steel frame, open air structure, is 40’ x 75’ and features both colors and a vented roof that are unique to the park system. The pavilion has a serving counter with a stainless steel top and two large grills for hosting events.

“We are very excited to continue our partnership with the city of Cedar Rapids through this project,” said Krista Tanner, president of ITC Midwest, the Cedar Rapids-based operating company of ITC Holdings Corp., which owns the electric transmission system in the region. “Noelridge Park is really the crown jewel of the Cedar Rapids park system. It’s an honor to demonstrate ITC’s community commitment through the support of this pavilion, knowing the many groups and families who will enjoy this great facility in the years ahead.”

The fitness zone at Noelridge Park features seven exercise stations on a 42’ x 43’ pad. Stations include balance steps, stretching, plyometrics, pull-up, Tai-Chi and push up equipment. It is located along the walking trail, next to the trail bridge that crosses the creek going to the Noelridge Gardens. CRAAR donated $20,000 to build the fitness zone. The Association donated a fitness zone for Cherokee Park in 2015, and is working on adding three zones in the future for a total contribution of close to $100,000 over a five year period.

"The Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors gives back to the Community that supports our profession in numerous ways. What better way than helping better our Parks and Recreational Facilities," said Gary Doerrfeld Public Relations Committee Chair for CRAAR.
