1973-1990: There were a handful of older buildings on Third avenue SW that were not demolished during Urban Renewal including the Gatto Building, former Colonial Theatre and the former Rowell Hardware Building at 120 3rd Ave. SW. The older Claxton Pharmacy structure at 100 3rd Ave. SW was replaced by a smaller newer building also used by Claxton’s. Peoples Bank continued to expand, adding two stories to their 1966 addition in 1978. The bank was sold to Norwest in the late 1980’s, and in 1990 an extensive restoration of Louis Sullivan’s design was complete on the original 1911 bank building.
