1990-present: A brief restoration, the entire structure was closed in 2011 to prepare for a major reconstruction of the entire facility. The arena’s memorable orange seats from 1978 were replaced. Parts of the 1978 structure that had stood over Third Street NE were demolished and the entire one block section of Third Street NE from First Avenue to A Avenue NE itself was removed to expand the US Cellular Center. The facility, including a new Doubletree Hotel, reopened in 2013.
