1973-1990: In 1983, the five story Magnus Hotel building was demolished immediately following the destruction of the Allison Hotel on the other half of this block. Both old hotels were removed to create a large parking lot. The demolition of the Magnus seriously damaged the structural integrity of the Café de Klos restaurant building at 322 Second Avenue SE. Because of the damage, that small building was demolished the following year in 1984. That project left one small 1890’s structure standing at 320 Second Avenue SE next to the large 1963 parking garage built by Merchants National Bank.
