1905-1920: A few years after a new Federal Post Office and Courthouse had been built on this corner in 1895, serious flaws were discovered in the foundation of the massive structure. By 1907, it was determined that the entire Post Office & Federal building would have to be entirely rebuilt. So after only about 12 years, the structure was demolished down to the foundation. A few walls in the basement were retained, but an entirely new building went up on this corner in 1908 and 1909. This newer Post Office and Federal Building was designed in a completely different architectural style form the earlier 1895 structure. Other changes on this block before 1920 included the opening of the Isis and Princess movie theatres at 315 and 323 Second Avenue SE.
