1990-present: Since 1990, this block of Third Street SE has been completely transformed. In March of 1990, the nearby Farmstead Foods plant (formerly Sinclair-Wilson’s) closed after 119 years in Cedar Rapids causing the nearby Third Street SE area to decline to its lowest point. But only about a year later, in 1991, the Legion Arts cultural organization began utilizing the old CSPS building, an early step in the rebirth of Third Street SE in the old Southside or “Bohemie Town.”
