Kids exit the Northwest Recreation CenterThe Northwest Recreation Center, located at 1340 11th Street NW, opened August 25, 2016. The center is the first municipal building specifically built for recreational programming in Cedar Rapids. It replaces the Time Check Recreation Center that served as a neighborhood center for the northwest area and provided Parks and Recreation Department programs for the entire city. 

OFFICE HOURS:
Monday - Friday: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

OPEN RECREATION HOURS: 
Monday - Friday
Adults (18+): 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Youth (17 & under): 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. (due to department programming)
Saturday/Sunday  
1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

The building is 16,000 square feet and includes a full-size gymnasium, activity room, game room, and community room with dividers. The gym can be divided and used as three separate volleyball courts or two small basketball half courts. Our game room provides hours of entertainment with billiards, foosball and table tennis. 

Come relax and read a book in our lounge area. Our community room can be divided into two separate rooms or used as one large meeting room. Table and chairs are provided and a small catering kitchen is available for use. A projector and screen in the community room can be rented for $16.

  • Full Community Room $32/hour or $78/3 hours

  • Full Gym $78/hour
  • Half Gym, $58/hour
  • Full Community Room $37/hour or $88/3 hours
  • Half Community Room $32/hour or $68/3 hours

Recreation Center Admission
Kids enjoy billiards and foosball in the game room.Enjoy hours of entertainment that includes access to the game room (billiards, foosball, table tennis) and the gym (basketball, pickleball, etc.) when available.

Admission Pass
First time patrons of the Northwest Recreation Center must fill out the Northwest Recreation Pass and Waiver Form that provides emergency information and has a parent's consent signature for those under age 18 to obtain an admission pass.   Patrons 18 and older must provide a government issued photo id.  All patrons must have a photo taken in order to use the facility.  Your initial admission pass card is free. A replacement pass card is $2.

Drop In/Open Gym Admission Fees:
$1 per person, ages 17 and under or seniors ages 60+
$3 per person, ages 18 - 59
$3 per person, Pickleball
For your convenience, you may purchase a punch pass at Northwest Recreation Center that is valid for all Open Gyms and Drop-in programs. Each pass has 21 punches with a value of $1 each.

The Northwest Recreation Center will be closed or have holiday hours on the following dates in 2024, unless an event, program or rental has been arranged.
