Methods for Disposing of Live Christmas Trees in Cedar Rapids

December 19, 2022

The City of Cedar Rapids will accept curbside disposal of live, unflocked trees, beginning Tuesday, January 3 and ending Friday, January 27. Whole trees may be placed at the collection area and set at least three feet from collection carts. Tree collections may not occur on the resident’s collection day and must be prepared for pick up following the requirements listed below. Trees may also be placed in the YARDY cart as long as the lid can close. To protect the safety of crews, make sure trees are placed at curb height for collection. Items placed on top of snowbanks will not be collected.

In addition, trees are currently being accepted at Prairie Park Fishery, 2125 Otis Rd SE. The site is open to receive trees from 6:00 a.m. to dusk (one half hour after sunset) and will close on January 15. Signs are posted identifying the location. The site previously used on Bertram Rd. is closed this year due to a bridge project. Trees dropped off will be recycled as fish habitat and trail surfacing.

To prepare trees for curbside collection or recycling remove all tinsel, ornaments, decorations, stands, watering packets, tree wrap, and netting. Do not place trees in plastic bags. Flocked trees, wreaths and garland cannot be recycled.
