Public Meeting to be held on Orientation of Relocated Skatepark

June 27, 2022

A meeting to gain input on the skatepark relocation at Riverside Park will be held on Wednesday, June 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at City Services Center, 500 15th Ave. SW. Skatepark and park users, neighbors, council and interested citizens are invited to attend and provide feedback on the orientation, layout and flow of the relocated skatepark, and features that must be replaced.

The Czech Village 12th Avenue SW (Riverside Park) Detention Basin project includes the first phase of a $20 million detention basin, pump station and floodwall project adjacent to the Czech Museum. Detention basins allow rainwater from storm sewers to be stored during heavy rain events. This water can then be pumped over the floodwall during times of flood. Detention basins can reduce the required capacity of pumping equipment throughout the Flood Control System. The detention basin at Riverside Park will displace the existing playground and skate park equipment. The playground has been removed to work on the basin and will be replaced. The skate park will also be relocated beginning in September. Restoration of the playground and skatepark complete by summer 2023.

Riverside skatepark is the City’s first public skatepark and will remain a neighborhood skatepark. The City is updating greenway plans this fall to include the newest flood control system alignment. A larger, destination skatepark, is included in the greenway plan. Public feedback on greenway elements will be held as plans are updated.
