Rollin' Recmobile Begins Schedule on June 4

The Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department’s Rollin’ Recmobile will begin its summer schedule on Saturday, June 4 as part of the City’s Resident Appreciation Day at the Downtown Farmers’ Market. This year, two Rollin’ Recmobile vans will bring recreation equipment, games, and staff to lead activities at parks, expanding opportunities for kids. There is no cost to participate.

“We are thrilled to add a second van this year so we can be in neighborhoods more often. There are 21 park visits scheduled each week, providing countless ways to keep kids busy throughout the summer,” said Hashim Taylor, Parks and Recreation Department Director.

While the intent is to bring recreation programs close to neighborhoods to reduce transportation barriers, kids can participate at any park, as many times per week as they like. Activities will include kickball, spikeball, GaGa ball, an obstacle course, bounce house, karaoke, lawn bowling, dance events, and contests. New activities will be planned each week. Organizations and partner groups will also join Rollin’ Recmobile on specific days to provide information and additional activities. The Recmobile is supported by the City of Cedar Rapids, GreenState Credit Union, Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, Cedar Rapids Kiwanis, and Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation.

The Rollin’ Recmobiles follow a consistent schedule each week. Schedule adjustments and activities will be announced through CRNewsNow. In the event of storms or tornado watches, the park stop will be postponed or canceled.
