Stolen Vehicles and Stolen Handgun Recovered, Suspects Arrested

On Tuesday, April 20 at 7:21 a.m. a Cedar Rapids Police officer took a report of a stolen 2019 Chevrolet Silverado from the 400 block of Hawkeye Downs Road SW.  The vehicle was stolen from a parking lot around 5 a.m. that morning according to surveillance video. A suspect vehicle was identified on the video as a dark colored Ford F-150.  The suspects had arrived in the Ford F-150 and one suspect drove off with the Chevrolet Silverado. 

The Police Department had taken a report of a stolen 2009 Ford F-150 on April 13 from a northwest side neighborhood. The keys were left in the vehicle but the owner indicated the doors were locked and accessible with a keypad. There was a 9mm handgun in the center console at the time of the theft. Surveillance video identified two possible suspects. 

The Chevrolet Silverado stolen on Tuesday, April 20 was equipped with a GPS tracker. The vehicle was identified as being in the 2400 block of Ivanhoe Road SW near Ely.  

 

Cedar Rapids Police officers were assisted by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol with going to the area that the stolen vehicle was believed to be parked. Around 8:30 a.m. law enforcement officers observed the stolen Silverado and two individuals in a cornfield.   

As law enforcement approached, one individual attempted to flee on foot.  The suspect was apprehended and identified as Kyle William Netolicky, DOB/07-28-1998, age 22, of Cedar Rapids.  The other individual, identified as Joshua Charles Visek, DOB/09-26-1978, age 42, of Shellsburg, was arrested and found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

 

Both stolen vehicles were recovered at the scene. The stolen handgun was located in a brush pile near the stolen Chevrolet Silverado. 

 

Officers also located a holster that was stolen with the handgun.  The holster was found in Netolicky’s possession near the suspect’s abdominal area. Methamphetamine was also found in his possession.  

Netolicky was arrested for two counts of Theft-1st Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Possession of a Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine, and Interference with Official Acts.  He was transported to the Linn County Correctional Center. 

Visek was transported to a local hospital for evaluation due to a medical condition as the result of allegedly taking a prescription medication and methamphetamine.  He has charges pending of two counts of Theft-1st Degree and Possession of a Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine.
