Homicide Investigation - 1655 32nd Street NE

On Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 9:38 p.m. the City’s Joint Communications Center received a report of shots fired in the 1600 block of 32nd Street NE. As Cedar Rapids Police officers were en route to the scene, additional callers reported shots fired in the area and there was a report of individuals running from a residence and leaving the scene in a vehicle.

Officers arrived on scene and located at 26-year old male victim behind a parked vehicle in the driveway of a residence at 1655 32nd Street NE. The victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical care was administered at the scene. Officers were assisted by Cedar Rapids firefighters and Area Ambulance Service personnel. At approximately 10:00 p.m. the victim was declared deceased at the scene after ambulance personnel contacted medical direction at a local hospital.

Evidence was collected at the scene, including multiple shell casings that were located in the backyard near the house and detached garage.

There is an active, ongoing investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, the shooting appears to be a targeted incident. No suspects have been arrested at this time.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.
