Suspect Arrested After Shots Fired Incident in the 1600 Block of 30th Street NW

On Sunday, April 4, 2021, at 6:43 p.m. Cedar Rapids Police officers responded to the 1600 block of 30th Street NW for the report of shots fired.  Based upon witness information, a male suspect discharged a handgun into the air and threatened to shoot a 23-year old male.  The suspect fled on foot. 

Officers arrived on scene and located six 9mm shell casings.  A description of the suspect was obtained and the suspect was identified as Nicholas Marcus Johnson, DOB/03-22-1994, age 27, of Cedar Rapids.  Johnson was located inside a vehicle in the 800 block of D Avenue NW at approximately 7:57 p.m.  He was arrested for Reckless Use of a Firearm and Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana. 

A 9mm handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle under the seat in which Johnson was seated.  He is accused of firing six gunshots into the air outside of the apartment complex in the 1600 block of 30th Street NW after getting into an argument with another male.
