Cedar Rapids is taking climate action.
We want YOU to be part of this effort.
About the Survey
This survey will ask what is important to you. Your responses will be used to make our Community Climate Action Plan.
Before we start, this is why climate change is a problem, and here are some ways we can help:
Our industrial world is burning too many fossil fuels which are filling the atmosphere and creating a hotter, more extreme climate. We need to reduce (mitigate) these man-made greenhouse gases and also build resilience (adapt to) this increasingly extreme climate.
- Burning fossil fuels, which adds gases to the atmosphere that trap heat (greenhouse gases)
- Developing the land, which releases carbon from the soil and reduces its ability to absorb carbon (a greenhouse gas)
In summary, taking action means helping the environment, which helps people’s health and creates a more beautiful community.
City Council declared the need for a Community Climate Action Plan that:
- Reduces pollution from fossil fuels (coal, gas, oil) 45% by 2030 and 100% by 2050 in order to help global temperature rise stay below 1.5°C
- Increases clean and renewable energy to 70-100% by 2050
- Helps people stay safe and recover quickly when extreme weather hits
- Ensures residents have access to clean water, clean air, healthy food, and good parks — especially residents who need these most
- Creates “green jobs” and training programs that help the environment and pay well
- Prioritizes equity and vulnerable residents (under-resourced and under-represented) in the planning process and in the plan’s outcomes
We need your help to make this plan.
Your responses will be included in a public report. The report will help City staff and a Climate Advisory Committee create a Community Climate Action Plan that helps our community. Any personally identifying information will not be included in the public report.
