The Cedar Rapids Police Department Honor Guard is comprised of 23 officers from various divisions of the Police Department. Sergeant Phelps is the commander overseeing the Honor Guard program. The Honor Guard's primary function is to participate in funerals by providing services such as Silent Guard, pallbearers, flag folding, rifle team and playing of Taps for any police officer or firefighter killed in the line of duty. The Police Department Honor Guard also participates in funerals for retired Cedar Rapids police officers. In addition, the Honor Guard provides other ceremonial duties throughout the community.
