The website includes all positions open to the general public.

The City of Cedar Rapids believes in upward mobility and promoting from within when a qualified, internal applicant pool exists. In these circumstances the City can open the position to current staff and any employees on layoff status who maintained bidding rights.

There are two types of internal positions: Department only and City Wide. For these positions external candidates who submit applications cannot be considered.

City employment applications can be filled out by hand or electronically. 

Electronic submissions:

Click on Employment Opportunities and identify which position you are interested in applying for. 

Select Begin the application process. . 

The City has a different applications for Seasonal and Regular (year round) employment - so make sure you use the one attached to the job opening that you are applying for. 

Complete the electronic application by tabbing or using your mouse to enter information.   It is best to save a copy to your computer for your records.

E-mail the application to:  hr@cedar-rapids.org 

You will receive a confirmation e-mail letting you know we received an e-mail from you and outlining some general information on the application process. 

Please do not submit multiple copies of your application.  If you are unsure if the e-mail was received please call (319) 286-5702.

If you are unable to pick up an application, please contact (319) 286-5702 and we will gladly mail you a copy. 

You can submit your completed, signed application to Human Resources, City Hall, 101 First Street SE, Cedar Rapids, IA  52401. 

The City does not take generic applications. Each department has one or more hiring managers. In order to process your application correctly Human Resources requires a job title. Unfortunately, at this time we can only accept applications for current openings.
