Program Open through 5/31/2022
The First Time Home Buyer program is open for applications; however, the program is nearing the end of funding for this round, and a waiting list is now in place. As a result, we will stop accepting application submittals at the end of business on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Those interested in the program are encouraged to complete and submit an application before this date. If funding becomes available, we will pull applications from the waiting list for consideration.
The application is available at online portal site by clicking here. Be sure to select "First Time Home Buyer" from the list of programs. Paper applications are available upon request; however, applicants are encouraged to use the online portal to avoid delays. Please contact us with any questions or issues with the application portal.
Funds are available on a first come, first served basis, and applications will be reviewed in order. Additional details can be found in the Document Section below, including the brochure, presentation, and frequently asked questions documents. Note: the program is meant for those who are ready to begin the home buying process. Applicants must have completed a homebuyer education course and have mortgage pre-approval at the time of application.

To be eligible, there are four main criteria:
- Be a first-time buyer
- Meet the income requirements
- Purchase an eligible property
- Meet debt and mortgage criteria

Homebuyer Education
Applicants are required to complete a HUD-approved home buyer education course before applying. Locally, Horizons offers an on-line homebuyer education course that is HUD-approved, but applicants are able to go through any agency they choose. However, it must specifically state the homebuyer education course is offered by a "HUD-approved" counseling agency in order for it to meet the requirements of the First Time Home Buyer program.
