Derecho Drainageway Cleanup
The 2020 Derecho resulted in tree damage in several drainageways around the City. Downed trees increase flooding risk by impeding flow within these drainageways, and the City has been working to remove tree debris from select areas. These projects have leveraged grant funding from both FEMA and the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). Four packages of drainageway cleanup projects have been completed to date, with a fifth and final package occurring in 2024. A map of the general areas included in the cleanup projects is shown below. Specific sites within these areas were selected based on the quantity of debris and permission from property owners to access the sites. All drainageway cleanup work is anticipated to be complete by the summer of 2024.
