The Scottish Rite Temple, also known as Consistory Building No. 2, was built in 1927 facing A Avenue to house of group of Masonic orders. Designed by New York architect Henry J. Hornbostel in association with Cedar Rapids architect William J. Brown, the limestone building has an impressive Doric temple front leading to a large auditorium flanked by two wings with smaller Doric temple fronts. It is linked to the Masonic Temple (the original consistory) facing 6th Street NE, built in 1910 and altered in the 1970s in conjunction with the construction of I-380. The Cedar Rapids Scottish Rite was established in 1884. It serves Masons from 31 counties in Eastern Iowa. More than 10,000 Iowa Masons have been members since it opened.
