Veterans' Memorial

The Veterans Memorial Commission is responsible for the management, development, operations and maintenance of the Veterans Memorial Buildings, known also as City Hall (view photo), Memorial Stadium and all of Veterans Memorial Park.

Cedar Rapids is the only City in the world whose municipal government is housed on an island. When viewed from the air, May’s Island, City Hall and the Linn County Courthouse resemble a battleship floating in the Cedar River (view photo). The facility has numerous memorials to American Veterans including the Grant Wood stained glass window, which depicts U.S. Soldiers from the Revolutionary War through WWI as a memorial to their sacrifices.
