Take a step back in time to a small Iowa town 100 years ago. At Ushers Ferry Historic Village today is . Located on a beautiful ten acre site in Seminole Valley in northeast Cedar Rapids, Ushers Ferry Historic Village is a showcase of how early Iowans lived before such conveniences as electricity or indoor plumbing.

Open Hours and Tours

Unfortunately, Ushers Ferry is not open for general public tours at this time. Due to severe damage caused by the 2008 flood, the village exhibit buildings are undergoing the slow process of restoration. However, we do have regular office hours Monday through Friday, 9:0 - 5:00 throughout the year, so please feel free to stop in to the Ushers Ferry Visitor Center and learn about our progress!

Special Event Days

Special event days are scheduled from June to November and include historical re-enactments, musical events and even a Thanksgiving Candlelight Tour. See our calendar page for more information.

Group Reservations

Ushers Ferry Historic Village offers a variety of workshops for kids and adults. In addition, an active teaching tour is available for grades two through six. Even though we do not currently have many of our exhibits ready for the public yet, we do have some of our buildings restored and can still provide many different kinds of entertaining and historical activities for groups of 15 to 30 people.

Other Facilities and Accessibility 

              Parking is provided within easy walking distance to the Village. Visitors with disabilities will find convenient parking. Some of the village buildings are wheelchair accessible and many more will be as we continue to go through the post flood restoration process. However, the Village grounds are large, and if walking is an issue, please ask the Village staff for assistance. We can offer a staff person and a golf cart during event and program days to take your party to the interior of the Village.

Gift Shop & Concessions
              The Ushers Ferry Gift shop is open on a limited basis during our special events. Popcorn and and Millstream Root beer, Cream Soda and Sarsaparilla are available for purchase during all of our events. Food Concessionaires will be available on the grounds during our larger special events, so you may want to plan your meal arrangements accordingly.
