The Cedar Rapids City Council will meet in Regular Session on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 3rd Floor, City Hall, 101 First Street SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to discuss and possibly act upon the matters as set forth below in this tentative agenda.

City to Present Draft Wellington Heights Neighborhood Plan May 30, 2013

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – May 20, 2013 – The City of Cedar Rapids will present the draft neighborhood plan for the Wellington Heights neighborhood on Thursday, May 30 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.  The presentation will be held at McKinley Middle School, 620 10th Street SE.

The presentation will incorporate input from two days of neighborhood meetings held earlier this month.  Participants had the chance to discuss proposed plans and goals on key neighborhood issues of housing, sustainability, economic vitality, connectivity, and community needs.  The complete documentation and results from the activities of these meetings are posted on the City’s website.

All interested citizens are encouraged to attend the presentation and provide feedback on the content and results.  Once any revisions are made, the draft plan will then be presented to the City Council for approval.  The neighborhood plan will provide a framework to help the City determine how best to use its resources for a maximum impact.  The desired outcome of the plan is to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood through targeted reinvestment.

The City has enlisted the services of SAA Design Group out of Madison, Wisconsin, to provide technical assistance in the development of the Wellington Heights Neighborhood Plan. Similar plans have previously been completed for other core neighborhoods. This plan is being completed with funding from the City’s Community Development Block Grant entitlement.

The City of Cedar Rapids and KCRG-TV9 will host a live event from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on June 13 on May’s Island. During this event, community members will share their flood recovery stories of triumph and tribulation. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
