2009 Curbside Leaf Collection:
Starting in 2009, no leaves will be allowed to be put into the street at any
time.
Leaf Pick Up
Program
Solid Waste program is performing the leaf pick up program.
The schedule is weekly on the garbage day. Leaves are
not to be put on the street but in a row behind the curb.
Only addresses that have city solid waste collection is
having leaf pick up. Businesses that do not have Solid Waste
pickup are to privately contract leaf removal. If you have
questions on the issue, you can contact Solid Waste at
286-5897.
STREET SWEEPING
In support of the
leaf vacuum program of Solid Waste, the number of sweepers
and cleaning crews are being doubled. These efforts align
with best practices for cities in removal of debris at peak
periods of the year to minimize run off organic matter.
This lowers the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) of the storm
water. BOD is a chemical procedure for determining the rate
of uptake of dissolved oxygen by the rate biological
organisms in a body of water us up oxygen. High BOD levels
cause adverse impacts to aquatic life.
(Yardies, bagged leaves, and other items are collected separately by the Solid Waste Department.
