Scheduled Citywide Bulky Item Collection

The City of Cedar Rapids will only collect up to 4 household furniture bulky items which are bigger than 3 feet long by 2 feet in diameter from your home during this year’s Bulky Item Collection Program:


  • Couches
  • Loveseats
  • Upholstered Arm Chairs
  • Coffee Tables
  • End Tables
  • Wooden Bookshelves
  • Entertainment Units
  • Dinning Tables and Chairs (Chairs with metal frames and tables with metal legs will not be collected)
  • Wooden Desks
  • Hide-a-beds
  • Mattresses
  • Box Springs
  • Wooden Head Boards
  • Night Stands
  • Dressers
  • Armoires

Find your normal garbage collection day below to determine when you can set out bulky items:

 

All bulky items and regular garbage must be set out before 7:00 AM on your designated collection day.
Bulky items must be kept separate from your garbage and recycling. Separating items helps your collectors and speeds up the collection.

Do not block access to your mailbox or collection items. Mail carriers will not deliver your mail and collection items may be left.

Appliance Drop-Off

The City does not collect Appliances at the curb during the clean up program.

To assist you with your appliance disposal, Solid Waste and Recycling customers can dispose of up to 3 appliances (with doors removed from all appliances) at no additional charge from Monday, April 10 to Friday, May 19, 2006 at the landfill site at 2250 A Street SW. All appliances disposed of beyond the 3 permitted will be charged a fee of $9.00 per appliance.

When you take appliances to the A Street SW landfill, you must give landfill staff the Bulky Item Collection flyer you received in the mail in order to gain entrance for your appliance disposal. An example of this flyer is shown at right.



Tire Drop-Off

The City of Cedar Rapids, in cooperation with the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency, will accept car and small truck tires (both on and off the rim) from Solid Waste and Recycling customers during the 2006 Citywide Bulky Item Collection Program.

  • Maximum 8 tires per vehicle
  • No tractor tires or other large tires

Solid Waste and Recycling customers can take tires to the landfill at 2250 A Street SW from Monday, April 10 to Friday, May 19, 2006 during the hours of 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM Monday-Friday and 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM Saturday.

When you take tires to the A Street SW landfill, you must give landfill staff the Bulky Item Collection flyer you received in the mail in order to gain entrance for your tire disposal. An example of this flyer is shown at right.


Scrap Metal Items Drop-Off

Residents who have scrap metal items can drop them off free of charge year-round at either:

Remove all non-metal material possible from items.

Examples of scrap metal items accepted include:

  • Bicycles
    (with or w/o tires)
  • BBQs
  • Gutters, Metal Siding, and Soffit
  • Wire Fencing
  • Poles
    (no concrete bases)
  • Play Sets
  • Metal Furniture
  • Exercise Equipment
  • Pots and Pans
  • Snow Blowers and Lawnmowers
    (with or w/o tires, but no gas or oil)
