Year-Round Bulky Item Collection

 

Overview
The Solid Waste and Recycling Department provides a collection service for large or bulky items and appliances, year-round for a fee.

Requesting Bulky Item Collection
Solid Waste and Recycling Customers can call the Solid Waste and Recycling Department at (319) 286-5897 to request a collection. All collection charges will be added to your water bill.



Bulky Items Collected and Pricing


BULKY ITEMS (up to 100 lbs)

Garbage crews will collect wood or plastic bulky items on your regular collection day via a scheduled work order. There is a charge of $5.00 per item.  For items not listed, please call the Solid Waste and Recycling Department at 286-5897.

  • Wooden Bookshelves
  • Cedar Chests and Steamer Trunks
  • Waterbed Mattresses and Frames (Remove metal bed frame)
  • Kids' Pools (1 piece plastic 8 ft. diameter)
  • Carpet Rolls (6 ft. long by 1ft. in diameter)
  • Kids' Toys (3 ft. long by 2 ft. in diameter or larger)
  • Mattress/Box Spring Set (Twin/Full $5.00; Queen $10.00; King $15.00)
 
  • Hide-a-beds
  • Futon Pads
  • Night Stands and End Tables
  • Coffee Tables
  • Sitting Benches
  • Entertainment Centers
  • Game Tables
  • Ping Pong Tables (remove metal)
  • Artificial Christmas Trees (out of cardboard box)
  • Large Animal Kennels (Larger than 3 ft. long by 2 ft. in diameter)
  • Wood and Fiberglass Ladders (8ft pieces max)

Bulky items weighing over 100 pounds will be priced accordingly.  Call the Solid Waste and Recycling Department for more information.

Save Money by Using City Garbage Stickers When Possible
If you are able to break down and tie any of the items listed above into bundles 3 ft. long by 2 ft. in diameter and weighing under 40 lbs., you can affix one of the City's $1.25 garbage stickers to the item(s) instead of paying the $5.00 Bulky Item Collection fee for each item.

The following items can be collected on your regular collection day via a scheduled work order. There is a charge of $9.00 per item plus a flat hauling fee of $15.00.

Pianos, Organs and Game Tables Over 200 Pounds


The Solid Waste and Recycling Department will collect standard pianos and organs, Baby Grand Pianos, Grand Pianos and gaming tables on your regular collection day via a scheduled work order.

All Items must be at the curb for collection.  Department crews will not remove the items from your home or carry them to the collection vehicle.

TV Sets and Computers


TV's and computer monitors will be collected on your regular collection day via a scheduled work order.

The CRLCSWA, (Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency), accepts TV's and Computers at their Recycling Drop Off Center located at the landfill on County Home Road near Highway 13.

Residents can also contact local computer recyclers for information on disposal costs.

Scrap Metal

You can drop off scrap metal free of charge at either of the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency's sites, County Home Road or A Street SW. Call (319) 377-5290 for more information.

Residents can also contact local scrap dealers for scrap metal drop off.  Check the Yellow Pages for scrap dealers.

The City WILL NOT collect hazardous or toxic items, paints or liquids.
