Utilities

Saving energy is something everyone can participate in.  The City of Cedar Rapids is working hard to save energy in its daily operations, but we also want to support our citizens as they try and save energy.  Here are a couple things everyone can do to make Cedar Rapids a greener place to live:

Get an Energy Audit
Sometimes we don't know what will get us the biggest bang for our buck.  The local energy utilities and several nonprofit organizations offer energy audits to help you evaluate your energy saving options. Check with your utility provider or GreenIowa Americorps for information on how you can receive a home energy audit.

Switch it Off
It sounds too easy, but lighting is responsible for approximately 11% of a home energy bill.  Turning off lights when you leave a room will save both energy and money.

Change it Up
Changing your regular lightbulbs to LEDs will reduce your energy usage.  CFLs use about 66% less energy than incandescent lightbulbs and can last up to 10 years!  LEDs use about the same amount of energy as CFLs but last twice as long. Changing your light bulbs is an easy way to make a difference.
