Residential Tree Program
Trees planted on private property can help reduce a home’s cooling bill in the summer and increase property values.  By working as a team and planting trees on both public and private property, the City and residents can help Cedar Rapids become a greener community. The Residential Tree Program is a partnership between the City of Cedar Rapids Forestry division and the Iowa DNR - Bureau of Forestry.

Trees are available to purchase for $30 each while supplies last. Advance purchase is required and is limited to two trees per household to ensure that all residents have the opportunity to participate.

Purchase Trees (Sold Out for 2019)
Complete the order form below and return it with a check for $30 (one tree) or $60 (two trees), payable to City Treasurer. Please place your order by April 26, 2019. No credit card or cash orders are accepted.

Tree Planting

Before planting your tree(s), Iowa law requires you to call 811 at least two business days before digging to make certain there are no utility lines or other equipment buried underground. For more information, visit www.call811.com or call 800-292-8989. This is a free service.

For maximum energy efficiency:
Plant shade trees within 30 feet of the east and west sides of your home
Plant conifers as windbreaks along the north and west sides of your home

If you are planning to place your tree within the City Right-of-Way, a permit is required and the tree must be an approved species.
