Citizen's Police Academy
Ever wonder what it's like to be a police officer? The Cedar Rapids Police Department will answer that question and many others while you attend the Citizen's Police Academy (CPA). The program is directed towards citizens who live or are employed in Cedar Rapids. The goal of the program is not to train citizens to be police officers, but to increase the understanding between Cedar Rapids citizens and their police department. Participants gain an understanding of how the department accomplishes its mission on a daily basis.
The CPA is an informative learning process that provides an opportunity for citizens to receive 8 weeks of both classroom and field instruction regarding the various responsibilities facing our officers.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age. An investigation of an applicant's criminal history will be conducted prior to acceptance into the CPA. Advance registration is required. The classes are FREE to the public and are limited to 20 people.
Information and applications may be obtained by contacting the Cedar Rapids Police Department Crime Prevention Bureau at 286-5440 or contacting Sergeant Cristy Hamblin.
