Accessible Parking Review Committee
The Accessible Parking Review Committee is a ten member committee consisting of five disabled persons (or persons providing regular transportation support to a disabled individual as defined in Section 321L.1 of the Code of Iowa) and five members who are officials of a political subdivision of the State of Iowa. Currently, the five members of the political subdivision are from the City of Cedar Rapids. These five members consist of one representative each from Parking, Transit, Community Development, Civil Rights and Traffic Engineering. This representation may change on an ongoing basis. All members are appointed by the Mayor, and approved by the City Council, for terms of three years. All vacancies are filled for the remainder of the unexpired term. The duties of the Committee include assessing local accessible parking needs in the downtown area of Cedar Rapids and making recommendations to the City Council regarding the increase or decrease of the number of accessible spaces, and upon request of the Council, to advise the Council on other matters pertaining to provision for accessible parking requirements. The Committee meets monthly, or as often as necessary, to accomplish the duties. The meetings last approximately two hours. The total estimated monthly time commitment including meeting is three to four hours.
