Johnson Ave NW Project Starting

Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin Thursday, April 5, on the Johnson Avenue NW Paving for Progress project, weather permitting.

Work this year will focus on the section between Midway Drive and just east of Jacolyn Drive; road closures will be in effect on Johnson Avenue while work is underway. Through traffic will be detoured via Edgewood Road, 16th Avenue and West Post Road

The full project will stretch from 1st Avenue to Midway Drive. Improvements include:

• Reconstruction of the roadway and transitioning it from four lanes to three lanes (one lane in each direction, with a dedicated center turn lane)
• Water main replacement and utilities
• Sidewalk and curb ramps
• Bike lanes
• A roundabout at Johnson Avenue and Wiley Blvd, and at Johnson Avenue and Jacolyn Drive

Paving for Progress 2018 Project List
In addition to Johnson Avenue, the O Avenue Paving for Progress project started last month, which includes complete reconstruction between 16th Street and Ellis Blvd. NW. Other projects starting soon include Northwood Drive NE, between Glass Road and Brookland Drive.

As of 2017, almost 34 miles of roadway and approximately 106 projects have been completed through the Paving for Progress program.

• 28th St NW from Johnson Ave to D Ave
• 36th St NE from G Ave to E Ave 
• 36th St NE from Zach Johnson Drive to G Ave 
• Arizona Ave NE from Center Point Road to Lawrence St
• Center Point Rd NE from 29th St to 32nd St 
• Drexel Drive SW from 1st Ave to Langdon Ave
• E Ave NW, Hwy 100 to Stoney Point Rd; Stoney Point Rd from E Ave to Cherry Hill Park Entrance (two-year project, partially funded by Paving for Progress) 
• Falcon Drive NE from Sally Drive to Glass Road 
• H Ave NE and 16th St NE from 14th St to D Ave 
• Hollywood Boulevard NE from Center Point Road to Council St
• Intersection of Outlook Drive SW and 29th Ave
• Johnson Ave NW from 1st Ave to Midway Dr (two-year project) 
• Mansfield Ave SE from 34th Street to 32nd St
• Memorial Dr SE from McCarthy Rd to Mt Vernon Rd

• Milburn Rd from Blairs Ferry to Tower Terrace Rd (this is a joint project with Linn County, and is partially funded by Paving for Progress)
