Additional Details on Monday’s Fatal Crash on Interstate 380
The Cedar Rapids Police Department responded to a double fatality accident at U.S. Interstate 380 northbound just past the U.S. Highway 30 exit at 11:22 a.m. on Monday morning.
Officers arrived on scene and found a single vehicle accident involving a 2007 Mercury Montego that had left the roadway and struck a pillar support of a bridge overpass.
Two occupants died at the scene and another occupant was transported to UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Jacolby Jesse Burks, DOB/06-11-1993, age 24, of Cedar Rapids. Burks was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
A passenger in the back seat of the vehicle, identified as Devion Martel Luster, DOB/10-06-1996, age 21, of Dixon, Illinois, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the front seat of the vehicle, identified as DeShawn Woods, DOB/10-16-1992, age 25, of Cedar Rapids, was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The weather conditions are considered a factor in the cause of the accident. An investigation by the Police Department determined that the vehicle lost control on the snow-covered roadway and struck the support pillar.
