The City of Cedar Rapids has partnered with students in the Cedar Rapids Iowa BIG program to host a Social Media Takeover Day. Starting at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, and throughout the day, the City of Cedar Rapids Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts will feature content created by high school students, for high school students and young adults.

“Our goal is to reach and engage with youth in the community by developing social media content geared towards younger residents in Cedar Rapids,” said Maria Johnson, Communications Division Manager for the City of Cedar Rapids.

Iowa BIG students have been working since January to develop a communications plan and create content for the Takeover Day.

“I have learned a lot about our City in the process of working on this project,” said Brooke McNeal, Iowa BIG student. “I hope other kids my age will learn from the experience too, and become more engaged and proud of their community.”

Social Media Takeover Day is part the City’s #CRYOUth initiative, with the goal of creating opportunities for Cedar Rapids youth in the areas of education, employment and engagement. Learn more about #CRYOUth by visiting cedar-rapids.org/cr_youth, and Iowa BIG by visiting iowabig.org.
