Final Open House for Northwest Neighborhood Action Plan

Final Open House for Northwest Neighborhood Action Plan

The community is invited to attend the third and final open house for the Northwest Neighborhood Action Plan:

Wednesday, February 1, 2017
5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
St. James United Methodist Church
(1430 Ellis Blvd NW)

On February 1, residents can view the results of their ideas provided through public input and see the draft Neighborhood Action Plan, which will outline specific goals and action steps to achieve the vision created by residents. A sampling of draft goals includes: gateways and other distinguishing neighborhood signage, promote infill and the construction of affordable housing, and maintain the single-family residential character of the neighborhood west of Ellis Blvd NW.

The outreach campaign formally kicked off last spring with a series of open houses for residents to identify opportunities and goals for the area, ranging from flood protection, greenways and recreation, infrastructure improvements, street aesthetics, building style, and more.

To view material presented at the first two open houses, please visit www.cityofcr.com/nwplan.

The plan will be presented for City Council consideration later this spring, and will provide direction and guidance on future improvements to the Northwest Neighborhood.

“Neighborhood residents have continued to demonstrate that they are invested in the future of this area through active participation during public outreach. The high level of input from residents and business owners has made a tremendous difference in the planning process,” says Assistant Director of Community Development Bill Micheel. “The engagement of residents will have a big impact on the effectiveness of the plan, and we look forward to revealing the goals and action steps we’ll use moving forward.”

About the Northwest Neighborhood Action Plan
Neighborhood Action Plans and Corridor Action Plans were identified through EnvisionCR (the City’s Comprehensive Plan), which was adopted in January 2015 following extensive public feedback. The Northwest Neighborhood is a 135-block quadrant that resides west of the Cedar River and north of 1st Avenue.
