Deadly Shooting Update
At approximately 7:52 a.m. on Tuesday, September 27th, the Cedar Rapids Police Department received a report of a female who had been shot in the 800 block of 15th Street SE. Police officers were in the area and immediately responded.
Witnesses told officers that there were male suspects at the scene of the incident that were running in the alley between 15th and 16th Street SE. Police officers, including K-9 units, apprehended two suspects in the 1500 block of Bever Avenue SE and a third suspect was taken into custody in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue SE.
The three suspects were in custody within 10 minutes of the call being received. A number of officers from various agencies, including the Iowa State Patrol and Mt. Vernon Police Department, were in the area helping with flood patrol duties and assisted Cedar Rapids police officers in apprehending the suspects. Residents in the neighborhood also provided information to the police department, including the location of the suspects involved in the shooting.
The female victim, Ireshia Parks, age 13, sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center. An autopsy is pending at the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, Iowa.
The three male suspects include two juveniles and a young adult.
A 13-year old juvenile male has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, Carrying Weapons, and Interference with Official Acts.
A 15- year old juvenile male has been charged with Interference with Official Acts.
A 18- year old male, Dquon Morrow, DOB/01-05-1998, age 18, of 1509 8th Ave SE, Cedar Rapids, has been charged with Interference with Official Acts.
This is an active, ongoing investigation.
