Police Apprehend Three Suspects in Deadly Shooting

The Cedar Rapids Police Department received a report of a female who had been shot in the 800 block of 15th Street SE at 7:52 a.m.  Officers were in the area and immediately responded.  

Witnesses told officers that male suspects were running in the alley between 15th and 16th Street SE.  Police officers, including K-9 units, found three males running in the area of Washington Avenue and Bever Avenue SE. 

Two suspects were apprehended in the 1500 block of Bever Avenue SE and a third suspect was taken into custody in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue SE.  

The three suspects were in custody within 10 minutes of the call being received. 

The female victim, age 13, sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. 

The three male suspects in custody include two juveniles and a young adult.  

Police believe that all the suspects involved in the shooting incident are in custody and that there is no present danger to the public. 

This is an active, ongoing investigation.
