The City of Cedar Rapids has not developed a well construction permit at this time. Linn County processes and authorizes all Well Permits within Cedar Rapids.

DNR Requirements

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has provided the Guidance for Well Construction document to determine if a Wastewater Pollution Prevention plan (WWPPP) is required. General Permit #6 outlines the requirements and regulations for a WWPPP.

If wastewater is generated during well construction or well service activities and reaches the Waters of the United States, you are required to obtain a National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit #6 from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) prior to well construction and must adhere to the terms and conditions contained within the general permit.

City of Cedar Rapids Requirements

In addition to the requirements of General Permit #6, the City of Cedar Rapids requires that all wastewater generated from well construction activity acquire 300 or fewer NTB (Nephelometric Turbidity Units) prior to discharge.
