10th Street SE is now open to two-way traffic between 5th Avenue and 8th Avenue, in front of Mercy Medical Center, Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, Iowa EyeCare and McKinley Middle School.
Work will continue on the streetscaping, including tree work, driveways, parking lots, sidewalk and brick pavers. This work should wrap up in early November.
August 12, 2019
Roadway work is wrapping up and most of the underground work is nearing completion. We anticipate the road will be open to traffic one lane each direction late this week.
Work will continue outside of the roadway, including streetscaping, sidewalks, retaining walls, tree pits, and parking lots.
The full project is scheduled for completion in November. As always, we appreciate your patience!
July 2, 2019
The closure at 10th Street SE and 5th Avenue originally scheduled for July 1 has been delayed approximately one week. 10th Street at 5th Avenue is still currently open to the south Mercy driveway.
Next week, 10th Street SE will be closed to all traffic at 5th Avenue, and will be open to traffic at 8th Avenue. Access to Mercy Hospital will be available from the 8th Avenue side.
Crews will place temporary pavement markings to help direct motorists to parking lots off 10th Street. This traffic pattern will continue into August.
June 28, 2019
Crews continue to work on the south portion of the 10th Street project, conducting reconstruction and streetscaping. Crews will be wrapping up paving activities in this area.
Starting on Monday, July 1, traffic patterns will shift. 10th Street SE will be closed to all traffic at 5th Avenue, and will be open to traffic at 8th Avenue.
Access to Mercy Hospital is available from the 8th Avenue side. Crews have placed temporary pavement markings to help direct motorists to parking lots off 10th Street. This traffic pattern will continue into August.
Crews will primarily work on storm sewer and pavement improvements in order to get the roadway open as quickly as possible.
They will switch to streetscape work after the roadway is open to traffic.
The project is on schedule and anticipated to be completed by this fall
June 14, 2019
Crews are moving quickly on the south portion of the 10th Street project, conducting reconstruction and streetscaping. Look for crews to begin paving activities in the next few days, which will last several weeks.
Following this work, the phasing will change and access to Mercy Hospital will switch to the south side of the project (8th Ave side).
May 24, 2019
Work continues to move forward on the 10th Street project. Crews are working on the southeast portion of the project near 8th Avenue; one lane closure remains in effect. The project is on schedule and will be completed this fall.
Starting June 7
10th Street will be closed between 5th Avenue and 8th Avenue; hospital access will be maintained and available from the 5th Avenue side.
May 15, 2019
Crews continue to work on underground utility lines on 10th Street, with a southbound travel lane reduction between 5th Avenue and 8th Avenue. Next week, crews will place new pavement in the “slip lane” (the right-turn lane for traffic traveling westbound on 8th Avenue, turning right and merging onto 10th Street).
Looking ahead, crews will transition to heavier construction and a closure of 10th Street when school is out for the summer (hospital access will remain open).
The project is on schedule and moving forward as anticipated.
May 1, 2019
Improvements will begin on Thursday, May 2 on 10th Street SE. We wanted to give you some information about what you can anticipate.
Starting on Thursday, southbound traffic on 10th Street will be reduced to one lane between 5th Avenue and 8th Avenue.
This lane reduction will last approximately six weeks. Later this June, 10th Street SE will be closed as pavement reconstruction gets underway.
