Police Volunteer Corps members help obtain fingerprints from childrenMembers of the Cedar Rapids Police Volunteer Corps provide critical assistance to police officers, as well as non-sworn support staff within the facility. Required to attend and graduate from the Citizens Police Academy, individuals interested in becoming an official volunteer, may fill out an application for consideration. Upon review and approval, the applicant is invited to attend monthly meetings at the Police Department, which are coordinated by Community Outreach Commander, Sergeant Jen Roberts.

During these meetings, various projects are considered where the volunteers would be of the most assistance at that time. These projects are wide-ranging and may include providing clerical support for support staff, creating accident packets for officers use, and assisting with crowd control during parades and other events, such as the Freedom Festival. Police volunteers come from all walks of life and share an enjoyment of serving their community.
