Every year, many bicycles are reported stolen. Remember to always lock your bicycle.
Bicycle licensing in Cedar Rapids is optional. Cedar Rapids has a one-time licensing fee. Licenses are $5 and are good for as long as you own your bicycle. Even if the license sticker is torn off, when the recovered bicycle's serial number is checked with computer records, the serial number will still show the registered owner's name even if the owner hasn't reported it stolen.
If you choose not to license your bicycle, you must record the serial number and keep the number in a safe place. If the bicycle is stolen, call our Records Department at 319-286-5350 and report the theft, description and serial number to them. With hundreds of bikes that are recovered every year, it is almost impossible to return a bike to you unless you've recorded the serial number or it's been licensed.
