Is your child in the right car seat?
Did you know about two-thirds of Child Safety Seats are improperly installed in Linn County?

Child Passenger Safety Seat Checks are offered every other month beginning in January on the second Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at McGrath Buick GMC Cadillac, 1040 N. Center Point Road, Hiawatha (I-380 and Boyson Road Exit). Representatives from the Linn County Safe Kids Coalition, Cedar Rapids Police Department, and Cedar Rapids Fire Department will check seats for proper installation and recalls. The safety checks are voluntary and free of charge.  Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling 319-654-2221.

What type of Child Passenger Safety Seat is best for my child? The best seat is the one that fits your child, fits your vehicle, and will be used correctly and consistently. Make sure that you purchase a seat that meets Federal Vehicle Safety Standards, has not been involved in a previous collision (seats purchased at a garage sale are questionable), and is appropriate for your child.  For more information please logon to www.safecar.gov

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department has three certified child safety seat installation technicians and the Police Department has two certified child safety seat installation technicians.  Contact one of our technicians today to get your safety seat inspected.
