1890-1905: By 1905, important commercial storefronts had been built at all four corners of 16th Avenue and C Street SW. Because this intersection was a major stop on a Cedar Rapids streetcar route, the businesses at these corners were very successful. This photo is looking towards the river on 16th Avenue SW from C Street SW in about 1905. The two story building at the far left was home to a popular drugstore with soda fountain for most of the 1900’s and today is the home of the Czech Cottage gift shop.
