1905-1920: However, when it opened on October 18, 1915, the name of the new theatre was the Strand. There was a memorable cartoon drawing in the newspaper showing “Mr. Cedar Rapids” welcoming the new Strand Theatre to the community. Also shown were drawings of the “Strand Theatre Players”, the actors who initially performed live plays on a regular basis for about a year. By the end of 1916, the new Strand Theatre was primarily a movie house showing silent films.
