1990-present: The creation of Czech Village in the mid 1970’s proved successful and continued on into the 1980’s and 1990’s. A small Czech Museum started in 1974 grew into the large National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library by the end of 1995. Many longtime favorite businesses continued to operate such as Sykora’s Bakery, the Saddle and Leather Shop and Polehna’s Meat Market, seen here at 96 16th Avenue SW. In 2006, a major streetscape project was completed for 16th Avenue SW from the Cedar River to C Street SW which featured new brick sidewalks and antique reproduction street light fixtures.
