1935-1949: Just over a year after the end of World War II was the grand opening of the new Kosek’s Dime and Dollar store in the Viktor Building at 87 16th Avenue SW. Opening just before Christmas, Kosek’s provided an affordable shopping option similar to downtown Cedar Rapids “dime and dollar” stores such as Woolworth’s, Kresge’s and McClellan’s. 100% locally owned, Kosek’s became an instant favorite for 16th Avenue SW shoppers.
