1935-1949: One of the first grocery “supermarkets” that opened in Cedar Rapids was Fritz’s Food Market at 59 16th Avenue SW in a brand new building! By the 1950’s, this became a “Me Too” supermarket grocery operated in part by the Witwer Wholesale and Retail Grocery Company of Cedar Rapids.
In the 1970’s, this was converted into Joens Brothers Carpet store and later became the Kuncl Mall. Today this is home to Lion Bridge Brewing Company.
