1990-present: On the east side of the block, all remaining structures close to the Third Street sidewalk were demolished. They had been vacant at the time of the Flood and had most recently been used as food warehouses. However, the rather unattractive large blue metal rectangular building put up for Iowa Steel and Iron Works in the 1970’s was converted into the NewBo City Market, a collection of shops, restaurants and activity space and what was once the “ugliest” building on the block became a major attraction for this Third Street SE block of New Bohemia.
