    The Bureau of Refugee Services has had a twofold mission: 1) provides for the effective resettlement of refugees by offering a home and future for those who have been persecuted, and 2) assists refugees in becoming self-sufficient as quickly as possible, thereby enabling them to enrich our state through the sharing of their talents, skills, gifts and culture.

    Churches United is an ecumenical organization of churches united by their common faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.     Initiated and chaired by Lt. Governor Sally J. Peterson, the committee, a non-governmental and non-profit organization, is composed of volunteers whoa re voices of a spectrum of ethnic, religious, and minority groups as well as leaders from business and industry, education, local and state government, public industry, and organized labor. The committee works to inspire and empower the diverse population of Iowa to recognize, value, and respect all peoples, and to eliminate racism, prejudice, and intolerance.

    The Iowa Division of Latino Affairs is a state appropriated division within the Department of Human Rights. It serves as a resource center that promotes positive change by assessing the issues and making recommendations to decision-makers of the challenges facing Iowa's Latino business and personal settings. There are nine commissioners located statewide that help to increase the understanding of social, cultural, and economic contributions that Latinos make in Iowa.

    The Iowa Peace Institute exists to help people learn more productive patterns of communication and approaches to conflict in order to improve their professional and personal relationships. The mission of the Peace Institute is to reduce the social and economic costs of conflict and help people solve the problems that keep them apart. The Iowa Peace Institute fosters appropriate and peaceful resolution of conflict and repair of harm from crime and wrongdoing by providing education and training, mediation, facilitation and restorative justice services.
